Dancer & Choreographer
ABOUt ME
Sophia Lang, from Simi Valley, CA, began dancing at a local studio at the age of three. While training in all styles, she discovered her love for modern dance. Her passion for dance as an art form led her to Chapman University, where she will be receiving a BFA in Dance Performance in May 2019. While at Chapman, Sophia has been given the opportunity to work with esteemed dancers and choreographers such as Jackie Sleight, Steven Sofia, Sean Greene, Jess Harper, and Julianne O’Brien. She has also performed as a featured dancer in works created by the world-renowned choreographer, Ido Tadmor, and the works of Backhausdance’s Jennifer Backhaus. Through Chapman’s department Sophia has also been exposed to the techniques and repertory of Alvin Ailey, Pilobolus, Complexions Dance Company, Bob Fosse, Martha Graham, and many more.
While Sophia’s main passion lies with performing, she is also an avid choreographer. She began developing her choreographic skills in high school, and continued to hone her instrument throughout her college career. She has choreographed pieces for several performances at Chapman University such as the Works in Progress concert as well as Concert Intime. She has also worked with outside studios, choreographing solos and group works. Sophia will be performing her final solo in LA this spring before graduating. This solo is a culminating
work, created in collaboration with fellow Chapman graduate, Samantha Waugh.
After graduating, Sophia will remain in the Orange County/LA area, working and training with various companies and auditioning for any and all opportunities that may arise. She will be working as a founding member of the company, Chaos Dance Theatre, as well as creating a new site-specific company called Guerilla Dance Initiative alongside fellow classmate Sarah Boardman, and faculty member Liz Curtis.
